Any ornithologists out there?

Anyone know what kind of a bird looks like an owl but has a regular bird head? Seriously, it has the size and shape of an owl, but it's head is like a normal bird, not that of an owl. That's what I'm looking at right now outside my window. It's kind of creepy.

Too much stupidity, too little time

Apparently my local school committee is in search of a new superintendent. They have decided to hire a consultant to come in and hire a superintendent for them. Am I the only one who can't grasp this?

First off, if your on the school committee, isn't it YOUR job to hire a superintendent? Even if you want to overlook that fact, shouldn't you WANT to be the one making the decision? Shouldn't you WANT to be the one screening the applications? Shouldn't you WANT to be the one conducting the interviews? Why on earth would you prefer to spend a lot of money to put this decision making into someone else's hands?

YOUR in charge here. YOUR responsible for this. If the person chosen by the consultant turns out to be useless, you can't go running to them to blame if your stupid enough to outsource this responsibility.

Hiring someone to hire someone. Unbelievable. Thanks again for wasting taxpayer dollars.

If I owned the Bruins...

I'd trade all the players for a roast beef sandwich and Red Wings tickets. Of course, I'd have to find a team willing to make the trade, so that probably would take awhile.

I saw them play NJ last night and they are pretty bad. There are times when they appear to be making an effort, but most of the time they're skating about as fast as Nancy Kerrigan after she was clubbed in the knee with the pipe and looking like they aren't sure why they're out on the ice.

It's great too that there was about a third of the seats empty. That must be why my ticket was so expensive, they needed to cover the cost of all the unsold seats. Word of advice, when the team is this bad, ticket prices can't go up, or you end up with empty seats.

Since I'm giving advice, here's a little more. You need to play defense if you want to win the game. Ok, I have to admit, that was one of Derek Sandersons "Keys to the Game" from several years ago, but it seemed appropiate last night. Also, Hal Gill is too big and slow. He can't get out of his own way. I know, that isn't advice, but it needs to be said.

One final note, it was kind of funny seeing the league leader stats on the board during the game and seeing Joe T. leading in assists and 2nd in points. I was never a giant Joe fan, but I really didn't think he was the big reason the B's weren't winning. I guess it turns out he wasn't. Oops.

I really hope people in this country wake up soon

Our fearless leader has just sent copies of his 2007 budget proposal to Congress. As usual, his solutions to reducing this record setting deficit are in all the wrong places.

What are the biggest areas to see cuts you ask? Well, that would be education and healthcare. Medicaid, Medicare and 42 education programs are amongst the many areas to see cuts with this proposed budget. Afterall, caring for the poor and the elderly as well as educating our children isn't really important anyway. They can fend for themselves.

What is important is making sure that the current tax cuts remain permanent. You know, the tax cuts that save the average American about $300 a year. That's a giant priority. Of course, if your making over $100k a year, the tax cuts are rather significant, and the people making that kind of money are the ones that really need the significant help. Poor wealthy people, they just can't get a break.

We also wouldn't want to cut out any of the pork barrel projects that Congress stuffs into bills in order to insure they get re-elected again. No, let's not touch those. Projects such as the Bridge to Nowhere, a bridge that connects Ketchickan (pop. 8,000) in Alaska to the small, mostly uninhabited Gravina Island (pop. less than 50)(source: article by Rebecca Clarren) are extremely important to this country and our future success. Without a $231 million dollar bridge that nobody is going to use, Rep. Don Young would not be re-elected, I mean our economy would not continue to grow in leaps and bounds as it apparently is doing now.

When are Americans going to wake up? We don't have record setting deficits by accident. It's because our elected officials are constantly wasting and mis-appropriating money. This needs to be stopped. Our officials, Republicans and Democrats, need to be held accountable for their actions. I'm sure there are some education and healthcare programs that are failing, but when they become the scapegoat programs so that Congress can continue to selfishly waste our money and we do nothing about it, then it is us, the American people who are failing.

The best part of the Super Bowl is that it's over

I was expecting a really good game Sunday. I thought both teams were strong and it would be a good, hard-fought battle. Boy was I wrong.

Neither team looked like it wanted to win. The Steelers, who had one 7 straight and were on a tear just looked bad. They did have a couple of great plays, but never really looked to all be on the same page. The Seahawks played slightly better, but couldn't seem to finish any drives. They also had too many penalties.

Then there is the bad calls, mostly in Pitts favor. Roethlisbergers touchdown was questionable and the offensive interference call that called back a Seattle touchdown seemed sketchy as well. I have no idea where the penalty was that they called on hasselbeck on the interception runback.

I'm a Steelers fan, so I'm glad they won. I'm just not sure they won due to their effort.

As for the halftime show, I'm not even going to get into that. Lets just say the Rolling Stones should really knock it off. That was just plain horrendous. Oh, and Aaron Neville, please just go away and stop torturing us with what you call singing. You'd be cut in the first round of American Idol. I have no idea how you have had such a long career.

My boat's bigger than yours

Why do guys with boats feel the need to brag about how great their boat is? Don't get me wrong, I like boats and I certainly wouldn't mind owning one, but if I did, I wouldn't suddenly think it makes me better than people without a boat.

I was out at a bar last night and had the pleasure of overhearing a conversation between 2 guys sitting next to me. They went back and forth for a good 20 minutes trying to tell the other why their boat was cooler...and they were friends. It was pretty funny. You could tell they could care less what the other was saying. They were pretty much just waiting until the other stopped talking so that they could continue on about how amazing their boat is. There was never any response to what the last person had said, just another statement about themselves and their boat.

I don't know, I guess I just don't get it.

On a side note, my boss owns a boat, but he doesn't brag about it, so Bob if your reading this, it doesn't apply to you. LOL.
